Global Portfolio Manager

Are you ready to shape decisions at the very heart of a global pharmaceutical company?

Do you thrive in roles where structure, data, and strategy come together to enable better decisions? Are you motivated by working at the executive interface — transforming complex portfolio information into clear, compelling insights that guide senior leadership and Boards? And do you bring a consulting-style mindset combined with a strong understanding of pharmaceutical development?

If so, this is a unique opportunity to step into a high-impact role at the centre of a global pharmaceutical organisation, where your work will directly influence strategic priorities, investments, and the value we bring to our patients.

The position
As Global Portfolio Manager, you will act as sparring partner to the Head of Global Project & Portfolio Management (PPM) and play a central role in enabling portfolio-level planning, optimisation, and governance across the organisation.

You will be responsible for driving and continuously improving core portfolio processes, including portfolio reviews, prioritisation, budgeting, milestone tracking, and governance enablement. Through structured data, clear logic, and strong storytelling, you will ensure transparency and decision readiness for the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Board of Directors.

In this position, you will join the R&D organisation as part of the newly defined Global Project & Portfolio Management function and report to the Head of Global Project & Portfolio Management. The role has a global scope and requires close collaboration across R&D, Commercial, Product Supply, Finance, and senior leadership.

Your primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Drive portfolio-level planning, optimisation, and governance enablement.
  • Lead portfolio review and prioritisation processes to support strategic decision-making.
  • Enable budgeting, milestone tracking, trigger points, and portfolio transparency.
  • Prepare high-impact executive-level material for ELT and Board of Directors.
  • Act as a strategic sparring partner to the Head of PPM on priorities, trade-offs, and recommendations.

Your key tasks will be to:

  • Prepare high-impact executive-level presentations and decision material for ELT and Board of Directors.
  • Drive and continuously improve portfolio review and prioritisation processes.
  • Support budgeting, resource allocation, and portfolio tracking across projects.
  • Develop and maintain milestone reporting, trigger points, and integrated portfolio timelines.
  • Support refinement and organisational implementation of the Stage Gate Model.
  • Support implementation and optimisation of project and portfolio management tools, including IT tools.
  • Monitor portfolio progress and proactively highlight risks, opportunities, and trade-offs.
  • Guide and coach project teams on executive-level communication and portfolio transparency.
  • Act as a central connector across R&D, Commercial, Product Supply, Finance, and senior leadership.

Your profile
We expect that you have:

  • A Master’s degree in business, life sciences, or a related field.
  • 3–5+ years of experience from top-tier consulting, portfolio management, strategy, or a similar high-performance environment.
  • A strong, structured problem-solving skillset and clear ownership mindset.
  • Proven ability to translate complex analyses into clear executive-level narratives.
  • Strong PowerPoint and Excel skills with a focus on decision-oriented output.
  • Solid understanding of the pharmaceutical value chain, asset development, and portfolio dynamics.
  • Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and navigating complex organisational landscapes.
  • High personal drive, curiosity, and ambition to grow into broader leadership roles.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.

You are strategic, structured, and execution-oriented, and you thrive in a high-paced, demanding environment with significant responsibility and visibility.
