Do you excel at navigating complexity across markets, stakeholders, and partners? Are you motivated by driving strategic life-cycle management decisions that directly impact global access and long-term value? And do you have the ability to translate complex development, regulatory, and commercial considerations into clear, compelling recommendations for senior executives?
If so, this is an opportunity to take a central leadership role in a growing global pharmaceutical company, where your project leadership will influence both strategic priorities and operational execution across a portfolio of marketed products.
The position
As Project Director – Life Cycle Management Portfolio, you will hold end-to-end project leadership responsibility for novel development activities for a portfolio of marketed products, driving global life-cycle management (LCM) activities across multiple geographies.
You will operate at the heart of the organisation, driving multiple projects, including:
- Regulatory advice and interactions, including FDA-related access activities in the US.
- Partner-led clinical programs to ensure future access and launch in Asian markets, e.g., China, Japan, and others.
- Cohesive, portfolio-level strategic planning for why and how life-cycle initiatives are prioritised.
In this position, you will join the Global R&D organisation as part of the newly defined Global Project & Portfolio Management (PPM) function and report to the Head of Global Project & Portfolio Management. The role is of high strategic importance, with significant visibility toward senior leadership and governance forums. You will ensure clear direction, robust execution, and executive-ready communication throughout the asset lifecycle.
Your primary responsibilities will be to:
- Lead and integrate global life-cycle management activities for a portfolio of marketed products, including strategic planning, prioritisation, and execution of LCM initiatives across regions.
- Ensure alignment between life-cycle strategies and commercial priorities in close collaboration with Commercial colleagues.
- Establish and be accountable for clear project governance, timelines, budgets, milestones, and decision frameworks, and act as the project’s primary voice toward key stakeholders.
- Ensure transparent, data-driven decision-making through high-quality executive-level materials and recommendations.
- Ensure strategic oversight of projects and align priorities with therapy area strategy objectives, including actively seeking novel opportunities and identifying and mitigating risks.
- Demonstrate a portfolio mindset and support overall Project & Portfolio Management Excellence, including improvement of central functional and cross-functional structures, processes and ways of working.
Your key tasks will be to:
- Establish, lead, and develop high-performing cross-functional Project Core Teams.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture and support a learning environment for all team members.
- Define project objectives, timelines, budgets, and success criteria, and maintain a structured Project Master Plan.
- Continuously monitor progress and proactively manage risks, opportunities, and trade-offs.
- Ensure transparency on changes to scope, timelines, budgets, milestones, and business case.
- Facilitate project meetings, document decisions, follow up on actions, and drive execution.
- Review and challenge strategically relevant documents (e.g. clinical development plans, regulatory strategies, TPPs) to ensure cross-functional alignment.
- Prepare and deliver clear, concise, and impactful executive-level presentations and written materials.
- Collaborate closely with external partners to ensure aligned execution.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of Project & Portfolio Management processes, tools, and ways of working.
Your profile
We expect that you have:
- A Master’s degree or PhD in life sciences, pharmacy, medicine, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in pharmaceutical asset development and/or life cycle management.
- Solid experience working with marketed assets and life-cycle management initiatives.
- Understanding of regulatory, access, and development pathways across EU, US, and Asia (incl. China and Japan).
- Strong project leadership experience in complex, cross-functional and partnered environments.
- Proven ability to craft and deliver high-quality executive-level communication, both oral and written, incl. visually effective powerpoint skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior executive level.
- A leadership style that combines empathy, clarity, and decisiveness.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
You are strategic, structured, and execution-oriented, and you thrive in a high-paced, demanding environment with significant responsibility and visibility. As this is a global role, international travel should be expected.
