Project Director – Commercial / Clinical Development Asset

Are you ready to lead a flagship pharmaceutical asset at the intersection of clinical development and commercial execution?

Do you thrive in roles where strategic thinking meets hands-on execution? Are you passionate about driving late-stage clinical development while shaping successful commercial launches? And do you excel at translating complexity into clear, compelling messages for senior executives and governance bodies?

If so, this is a unique opportunity to take a pivotal leadership role in a growing global pharmaceutical company, where your project leadership will directly influence both patient impact and long-term value creation.

The position
As Project Director – Commercial / Clinical Development Asset, you will hold end-to-end responsibility for one of our key strategic assets, driving both late-stage clinical development (Phase 2/3 indication expansion) and supporting commercial launch and in-market activities.

You will operate at the heart of the organisation, driving two closely connected project dimensions:

  • Leading the clinical development project team for indication expansion.
  • Supporting and enabling commercial launch and in-market execution, in close partnership with Commercial leadership.

In this position, you will join the Global R&D organisation as part of the newly defined Global Project & Portfolio Management (PPM) function and report to the Head of Global Project & Portfolio Management. The role is of high strategic importance, with significant visibility toward senior leadership and governance forums. You will ensure clear direction, robust execution, and executive-ready communication throughout the asset lifecycle.

Your primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Enable Commercial launch success in asset’s primary indication through project management support of the commercially led core team.
  • Lead a cross-functional clinically focused core team to drive indication expansion (Phase 2/3), ensuring strong project execution and strategic anchoring.
  • Establish and be accountable for clear project governance, timelines, budgets, milestones, and decision frameworks, and act as the project’s primary voice toward key stakeholders.
  • Ensure transparent, data-driven decision-making through high-quality executive-level materials and recommendations.
  • Ensure strategic oversight of projects and align priorities with therapy area strategy objectives, including actively seeking novel opportunities and identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Demonstrate a portfolio mindset and support overall Project & Portfolio Management Excellence, including improvement of central functional and cross-functional structures, processes and ways of working.

Your key tasks will be to:

  • Establish, lead, and develop high-performing cross-functional Project Core Teams.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture and support a learning environment for all team members.
  • Define project objectives, timelines, budgets, and success criteria, and maintain a structured Project Master Plan.
  • Continuously monitor progress and proactively manage risks, opportunities, and trade-offs.
  • Ensure transparency on changes to scope, timelines, budgets, milestones, and business case.
  • Facilitate project meetings, document decisions, follow up on actions, and drive execution.
  • Review and challenge strategically relevant documents (e.g. clinical development plans, regulatory strategies, TPPs) to ensure cross-functional alignment.
  • Prepare and deliver clear, concise, and impactful executive-level presentations and written materials.
  • Collaborate closely with external partners to ensure aligned execution.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of Project & Portfolio Management processes, tools, and ways of working.

Your profile
We expect that you have:

  • A Master’s degree or PhD in life sciences, pharmacy, medicine, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in pharmaceutical asset development and/or commercialisation.
  • Solid hands-on experience with Phase 2/3 clinical development and indication expansion.
  • Previous exposure to pre-launch, launch, and in-market activities, preferably in EU and US.
  • Strong project leadership experience in complex, cross-functional and partnered environments.
  • Proven ability to craft and deliver high-quality executive-level communication, both oral and written, incl. visually effective powerpoint skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior executive level.
  • A leadership style that combines empathy, clarity, and decisiveness.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

You thrive in a fast-paced, high-impact environment and are motivated by responsibility, visibility, and the opportunity to make a real difference. As this is a global role, international travel should be expected.
