Director, Head of Safety Surveillance

Do you want to play a key role in the safety surveillance activities working with clinical and post-marketing activities?

We are seeking an experienced Director to lead our global Safety Surveillance team and support our global drug safety initiatives and ensure the highest standards of patient safety. In this strategic leadership role, you will lead a dedicated and empowered team of 13 safety surveillance professionals. The ideal candidate will be an experienced leader having profound experience as subject matter expert in clinical drug safety, signal detection, risk management, and post-market surveillance.

The position
Safety Surveillance is a department within Global Safety & Pharmacovigilance, and we are a team of enthusiastic and skilled professionals that has responsibility for global surveillance activities. The team monitors safety across clinical development projects and post marketing activities, including evaluating adverse events, prepares regulatory safety reports, detecting safety signals and monitors the product safety profile of all ALK’s products worldwide.

You will have the opportunity to make a meaningful positive impact on the lives of patients who are affected by allergy and contribute to the ALK aspiration of building a broader presence in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of allergy.

Your tasks include:

  • Lead, coach and develop the Safety Surveillance team.
  • Allocate Safety Surveillance resources to clinical development projects and post-marketing pharmacovigilance tasks, while ensuring alignment with ALK objectives and regulatory standards.
  • Member of the GSP Leadership team and contribute to leadership activities.
  • Cross-functional collaboration to ensure the voice of safety surveillance in projects and processes.
  • Provide and support strategic input to the team in relation to:
    • Input to safety modules for dossier submission, contribute to answers to safety-related questions from regulatory agencies and internal/external stakeholders
    • Pharmacovigilance and risk management activities, including safety during clinical development, signal detection, aggregated reports, risk management assessments and ad hoc reports prepared by the team
    • Clinical trial protocols, IBs, CSRs, abstracts and publications in relation to safety
    • Quality documents
    • Chair team activities including on-going improvement in effectiveness and professional competencies within the team.
    • Work closely with other functions including clinical, regulatory, medical affairs, and quality assurance teams to ensure integrated safety processes throughout the product lifecycle.

You will work in collaboration with the highly skilled safety surveillance team and other colleagues across the functional areas in Research & Development at ALK.  It is a role with significant responsibility and empowerment, allowing for the opportunity to develop, contribute and make an impact. You will report to the Head of Global Safety & Pharmacovigilance and be based in Hørsholm, Denmark.

Your profile
To be a success in this role, you are driven by a high level of professionalism, supplemented by being a supportive and delegating leader with an open-minded and collaborative leadership style. You understand medical concepts and keep focus on the big picture without missing the details. 

We expect that you have:

  • Proven management experience.
  • In-depth understanding of drug safety in clinical development, signal detection, risk management, and other safety surveillance activities.
  • A university degree within medicine or natural sciences (MD, DVM, MSc Pharm or equivalent).
  • A strong understanding of medical concepts, scientific methodology and drug development.
  • 10+ years of experience within drug safety and pharmacovigilance, it is asset if you in addition have experience with safety in clinical development projects.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • A strong collaborator that are ethical, responsible, and work well under pressure when needed.
