Laboratory Automation & Digitalization Engineer

Do you want to help build the digital foundation for a modern laboratory and a CMC environment? Are you motivated by creating practical digital solutions, automating manual processes, and connecting systems and data? And would you like to take on a key role in an early-stage digitalization journey where your ideas and technical skills can make a real impact?

Then this could be the right opportunity for you.

The position
Global CMC at ALK is at the beginning of an important digitalization journey, and our department, Laboratory Automation Development, is looking for a hands-on Laboratory Automation & Digitalization Developer to help build the foundation for our future digital landscape.

This is a key role for an experienced profile who enjoys developing practical solutions, automating workflows, connecting systems and data sources, and working closely with both users and IT. You will not be joining a mature digital setup — you will help shape it from the start.

You will work across cross-functional areas with digital solutions such as LIMS, ELN, equipment connectivity, data transfers, visualization, automation, data and AI platforms and future digital infrastructure. The role is ideal for you if you can translate user needs into robust technical solutions and want to help build standards, tools, and ways of working from the ground up.

Your primary tasks will be:

  • Develop small and larger digital solutions to support and improve workflows, data handling, reporting, and decision-making in collaboration with end-users.
  • Automate manual processes such as calculations, file handling, data transfers, data mapping, and recurring reporting tasks.
  • Develop data-driven applications, dashboards, workflows, and visualization tools that create practical value for users.
  • Support connectivity between analytical equipment, LIMS, ELN, databases and data storage systems.
  • Work closely with IT to help establish scalable, secure, and maintainable digital infrastructure.
  • Contribute to standards for documentation, testing, version control, data flow design, and long-term solution ownership.
  • Ensure that solutions are developed with appropriate focus on data integrity, traceability, compliance, and maintainability.

Your profile
We expect that you have:

  • An academic degree within a relevant scientific or technical field, such as Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Biotechnology, Chemistry, or similar.
  • Solid hands-on experience programming data processing and automation workflows and scientific or engineering applications.
  • Experience with programming or scripting languages such as Python, C#, R, JavaScript, or similar.
  • Good understanding of SQL and relational databases, data structures and exchange formats such as CSV, XML, and JSON, and system integration through APIs.
  • Experience with visualization or reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, Dash, Streamlit, Plotly, or similar.
  • The ability to work independently with an innovative and development-oriented mindset in an area that is still being established
  • Good communicates skills to work well with both scientific and technical stakeholders, including end-users, IT, QA, project managers and external vendors.

Experience with cloud-based data platforms, LIMS, ELN, CDS, SDMS, equipment connectivity, GxP, CSV/CSA, data integrity, audit trails, or validated systems is considered an advantage, but not a strict requirement if you have the right technical mindset and willingness to learn.

To succeed in this role, you should enjoy building practical solutions that solve real operational problems. You are curious, structured, and self-driven, and you are motivated by helping define how digital solutions should be developed, governed, and maintained in the future.
